With the ULTRA SL 36C, ax-lightness sets new benchmarks in high-end wheel construction with extreme lightness for pure road use. Building on decades of experience in carbon manufacturing, the ULTRA series has been consistently refined and optimized for maximum performance. The in-house ULTRA components incorporate the combined know-how from all ax-lightness production fields (cycling, automotive, skiing, etc.)—united in a highly integrated lightweight system without compromise.
The ULTRA SL 36C combines an aerodynamically efficient 36 mm rim depth with an exceptionally low total weight of just 880 grams per wheelset (including tubeless rim tape, ±5 %). This positions the ULTRA SL 36C as an outstanding aero lightweight wheelset that remains well below the 1000-gram mark while still being approved for a maximum system weight of up to 115 kg—an impressive demonstration of the structural efficiency and stability of this wheelset.
Both front and rear wheels feature 20 ultra-stiff carbon bladed spokes in the particularly lightweight T32 version. These spokes are even more weight-efficient and, combined with the 2-cross lacing pattern, ensure uniform load distribution, high lateral and torsional stiffness, and extremely direct power transfer—ideal for explosive accelerations, hard sprints, and efficient climbing.
The rim of the ULTRA SL 36C is precisely tuned for modern road tires. With an internal rim width of 23 mm and an external width of 28 mm, it offers optimal tire support, smooth rolling characteristics, and a very well-balanced combination of aerodynamics, weight, and handling. The bulbous rim profile delivers high aero stability and calm, predictable handling even in crosswinds.
As with all wheelsets in the ULTRA series, the ULTRA SL 36C is equipped with in-house ax-lightness ULTRA Disc hubs featuring a ratchet freehub system and high-quality ceramic bearings. The focus is on minimal rolling resistance, maximum durability, and the lowest possible weight – perfectly matched to the uncompromising SL lightweight philosophy.
Visually, the ULTRA SL 36C underlines its exclusive character with a reduced UD glossy paintless finish and subtle white decals, further contributing to weight savings.
The weight of the wheelset is just 880 grams including tubeless rim tape (+/–5 %), placing it in a weight class that is virtually unmatched even within the aero segment. Combined with approval for a 115 kg system weight, the ULTRA SL 36C defines a new benchmark for series-production carbon aero wheels.
