With the ULTRA SL 45C, ax-lightness sets new benchmarks in high-end wheel construction with extreme lightness for road use. Building on decades of experience in carbon manufacturing, the ULTRA series has been consistently refined and optimized for maximum performance. The in-house ULTRA components incorporate the combined expertise from all ax-lightness production areas (cycling, automotive, winter sports, etc.) – united in a highly integrated lightweight system without compromise.
The ULTRA SL 45C combines an aerodynamically efficient 45 mm rim depth with an extremely low total weight of just 950 grams per wheelset (including tubeless rim tape, ±5 %). This positions the ULTRA SL 45C as an exceptional aero lightweight wheelset, remaining well below the 1000-gram mark while still being approved for a permitted system weight of up to 110 kg – an impressive testament to the structural efficiency and stability of this wheelset.
At the front and rear, 20 high-stiffness carbon bladed spokes in the particularly lightweight T32 version are used. These spokes are even more weight-efficient and, in combination with the 2-cross lacing pattern, ensure even load distribution, high lateral and torsional stiffness, and extremely direct power transfer – perfect for explosive acceleration, hard sprints, and efficient climbing.
The rim of the ULTRA SL 45C is specifically designed for modern road tires. With an internal width of 24 mm and an external width of 30 mm, it offers optimal tire support, smooth rolling characteristics, and a very balanced ratio of aerodynamics, weight, and handling. The bulged rim shape ensures high aero stability and stable handling even in crosswinds.
As with all wheelsets in the ULTRA series, the in-house ax-lightness ULTRA disc hubs with ratchet freehub system and high-quality ceramic bearings are used. The focus is on minimal rolling resistance, maximum durability, and the lowest possible weight – perfectly aligned with the uncompromising SL lightweight philosophy.
Visually, the ULTRA SL 45C emphasizes its exclusive character with a minimalist UD glossy paintless finish and subtle white decals, which also contribute to weight savings.
The weight of the wheelset is just 950 grams including tubeless rim tape (+/–5 %), placing it in a weight class that is unmatched even within the aero segment. Combined with approval up to 110 kg system weight, the ULTRA SL 45C defines a new benchmark for production carbon aero wheelsets.
